you have to know…
So last night I had the honor, pleasure and JOY of performing in the same space as Trezure Empire (formerly known as Trezure the Empress—she’s grown it into an Empire, stay woke!) and if you don’t know her, you’re for real for REAL missing out on some of the best talent (check the definition) out right now.
She is ON HER STUFF and I deeply admire her. And that’s saying a lot.
See I’m the kind who’s extra cautious and extra picky (men beware) and extra critical—I’m a virgo. I like what I like and I claim to “get” people. I’m not about that confusion stuff. So that I am blessed to know Trezure as an artist AND a person is goodstuff in my book. Being around her is like being in a mentoring session, which makes sense cause she’s a teacher who loves to teach (go fig!) Aside from singing, she said that’s what she wants to be about: teaching people the stuff they need to know, mainly about music, and black music at that…i can dig it.
I do have one thing to say in the “watch out” category about Trezure: if you are not on your stuff, if you are not sure of who YOU are, or if you have any misgivings about where you are in life, you might feel like a singular dot after she’s gone. (!)
If i missed you there, I’ll just make this confession (praise report) short.
My name is Arin Maya Lawrence. I’m a singer. I go by ArinMaya. I sing jazz, soul, electrobeat and anything in or around any of those stylings. I like what I write. Sometimes I love it. I love music. I love listening to music. I love learning more about music. I am still growing, and I have a LONG way to go. When I say that people (other musicians mainly) the ones I’m privileged to talk to say things like “we all do.” Oh humble men are you!
I’m down for the struggle and ladder climbing because I know this is what I want to do. However, the question is often: well, WHAT do you want to do?
Direction, sound, style, image, etc. I’m a work in progress who also really loves to knit and shop. (Shoot me!)
It is a blessing and privilege to have seen Trezure’s blessings come up on her. She’s a powerhouse of a singer. She reminds me of Gladys Knight. Strong and sure and irrevocable. Real, and actually REEEEALLLY GOOD.
So all I’m saying is that while I’m not intimidated by her, I’m definitely inspired to UP MY GAME when I’m around her. Which is a great awesome thing, but which can simultaneously make a girl like me feel like… “what have i been doing all this time??!?” or “where’s MY inspiration!??!”
:)
It’s a good place to be in-in the company of people who bring good from you because of their own light. I’m honored, and working.
Don’t you miss out on the Trezure of it all…
